HP (Hewlett Packard) HP Laser Printers: PaperCut works with all HP lasers produced over the last 9 years. Where possible, we recommend the PostScript drivers or recent PCL drivers. PaperCut will work with the HP Universal Driver. We however find that most of our users opt for the light-weight network drivers to support printer sharing and driver deployment. The Universal Driver is in fact a driver that wraps every driver into one installer and hence is quite heavy weight.

It’s great for a stand-alone install, however for network deployments selecting the specific light-weight network drivers by hand usually results predictable behavior and the administrator more control. PaperCut provides page level color detection for full PCL5, PCL6 and PostScript language implementations by HP. There is document level color detection for HP JetReady. Note February 2011: Large sites running HP devices with Novell OES iPrint as a print server have reported scalability problems with the HP ToolboxFX status tool has been deployed. It seems like this tool excessively “pings” the printer for status information and does not scale well across large networks. The solution is to deploy the standard network driver only. Please use standard color detection (the default) instead. Note February 2009: The HP P100x series (small home/home office laser printer) is not currently supported, but will be supported in future versions. Kyocera PaperCut is compatible with both the PostScript range of drivers (referred to as KPDL) and the PCL drivers from Kyocera Document Solutions. Note Sep 2009: The Lexmark C500N uses a proprietary, undocumented printer language and is not currently supported by PaperCut. We have currently had 1 request for adding Lexmark C500N printer support. Ricoh/Nashuatec PaperCut supports the current range of Ricoh laser and multi-function printers. Ricoh provide a number of print driver options including PCL, PostScript and RPCS (Ricoh’s own language).

Upgrade, or contact PaperCut Support if you experience this problem. Toshiba Toshiba offer PostScript based drivers for these devices and are compatible with PaperCut.

The driver’s in-built accounting code feature found in the e-Studio devices can sometimes conflict with PaperCut. Note Aug 2012: Improved page level color detection for TOSHIBA e-STUDIO4520 Mac PostScript driver. Xerox/Tektronix/Fuji The DocuPrint and Phaser Series accommodate PCL and PostScript. Use the PostScript drivers if available. Some lower end DocuPrint systems only support PCL, in which case we recommend the PCL6 drivers. New Xerox printers using the HBPL or TIFF6 printer language drivers are also supported.

Wide-Format printers such as the Xerox 6204 are supported in the latest versions of PaperCut NG. Note December 2017: Mac and Linux: Fixed an issue where the printer toner level, model, and serial number was not updated on the Printer Details page for printers using some Xerox drivers.
